The Sacred Ramayana Trail in Sri Lanka is a spiritual journey that follows the footsteps of Lord Rama, Sita, and Hanuman while showcasing the island’s deep religious heritage, cultural landmarks, and natural beauty. This 9-day journey takes you across ancient capitals, UNESCO heritage sites, Ramayana temples, forts, hot springs, and serene beaches. From Colombo’s sacred shrines to Anuradhapura’s historic ruins, from the mystical caves of Ravana in Ella to the sacred Kataragama Temple, this tour blends mythology, spirituality, and scenic landscapes into one unforgettable pilgrimage.
Day 1 – Arrival in Colombo
Upon arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport, our representative will greet you and transfer you to Colombo (approx. 2 hours). Begin your Ramayana Trail with a visit to the Panchamuga Anjaneyar Temple, a rare shrine dedicated to Lord Hanuman. Continue to the revered Ganagarama Temple, followed by Kelaniya Temple, believed to be blessed by the Buddha himself, and the Vibhishana Temple. Later, check into your hotel for relaxation. In the evening, enjoy a delicious dinner and spend the night in Colombo.
Day 2 – Colombo to Anuradhapura
After breakfast, depart for Anuradhapura with an en-route stop at Munneshwaram and Manavari Temples. According to the Ramayana, Manavari is the first place where Lord Rama installed and worshipped a Shiva Lingam after defeating Ravana. Continue to Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka’s ancient capital and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, renowned for its Buddhist monasteries, towering stupas, and the sacred Bodhi tree, the oldest recorded tree in the world. Explore this archaeological wonder before checking into your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3 – Anuradhapura to Trincomalee
After breakfast, drive to Trincomalee, a historic port city (approx. 3 hours). En route, stop again at Munneshwaram and Manavari for blessings. On arrival, visit the Thiru Koneshwaram Temple and Shankari Devi Temple, part of the revered Shakti Peethas. Explore the Temple of a Thousand Pillars and Dakshina-Then Kailasam, rich with ancient architecture and legends. Later, visit the Kanniya Hot Springs and Shakthi Peedam. Continue towards Habarana and check into your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4 – Anuradhapura to Kandy
After breakfast, visit the iconic Sigiriya Rock Fortress (optional). Later, proceed to Kandy, the cultural capital of Sri Lanka (approx. 3 hours). En route, stop at a Spice Garden to learn about Sri Lanka’s fragrant spices, followed by a visit to Nalanda Gedige, believed to be the geographical center of Sri Lanka. Upon reaching Kandy, explore the scenic city and visit the famous Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, one of the most important Buddhist shrines. Dinner and overnight stay in Kandy.
Day 5 – Kandy to Nuwara Eliya
After breakfast, drive to Nuwara Eliya, often called “Little England” due to its colonial charm and cool climate. On the way, stop at a Tea Factory to witness Sri Lanka’s world-famous tea production, and admire the beauty of Ramboda Falls. Visit the Hanuman Temple, an important Ramayana site. Later, explore Nuwara Eliya city, including colonial buildings, lush valleys, and sparkling waterfalls. Dinner and overnight stay at your hotel in Nuwara Eliya.
Day 6 – Nuwara Eliya – Ella – Kataragama
After breakfast, head to Kataragama with a stop in Ella. Visit Divurumpola Temple, where Sita underwent the Agni Pariksha to prove her purity. Explore Ella’s Ravana Cave and Ravana Falls, linked to the legend of Ravana’s abduction of Sita. Continue to Kataragama, a sacred town worshipped by Hindus, Buddhists, and indigenous Vedda people. Visit Sella Kataragama Temple and Tissamaharama Temple. Dinner and overnight stay in Kataragama.
Day 7 – Kataragama to Colombo via Galle
After breakfast, drive towards Colombo with several stops en route. Visit Ussangoda, believed to be one of Ravana’s legendary landing strips for his Pushpaka Vimana. Continue to Galle Fort, a UNESCO site, and Rumassala, said to be a fragment of the Himalayas carried by Hanuman. Later, enjoy a boat ride on the Madu River and relax at Bentota Beach before reaching Colombo. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel in Colombo.
Day 8 – Colombo Sightseeing
After breakfast, enjoy a guided city and shopping tour of Colombo. Discover the city’s cultural blend at Fort Station, the Red Mosque, Khan Clock Tower, and Lotus Tower. Wander through Pettah Bazaar to experience local life and taste Sri Lankan street food. The rest of the day is free for leisure and shopping. Dinner and overnight stay in Colombo.
Day 9 – Departure from Colombo
After breakfast, check out and transfer to the airport (approx. 1 hour) via expressway for your flight back home, carrying divine memories of your Ramayana Trail pilgrimage in Sri Lanka.
